As seen on ‘Oprah’?

Times-Picayune columnist and author Chris Rose was asked to be on “Oprah” to talk about the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and post-Katrina depression, which he had suffered from and documented in his book, “1 Dead in Attic.” But he wasn’t allowed to mention the book. Or show the book. After the interview, an “Oprah” producer asked Rose to sign a release form that said he wouldn’t talk or write about being on the show. And he refused: “I told them they could use my words, my image, my story and even my kid, but that they couldn’t edit me.”

Which is why Rose speculated you wouldn’t see him on “Oprah” today.* Part of his interview is on Oprah’s Web site and his book is mentioned. Whether he was on the show or not, Rose’s column is worth reading.

*I do not watch “Oprah,” so I don’t know if Rose was a guest. Anderson Cooper, who was definitely dealing with depression, too, if you read his book, was a guest. As well as Lisa Ling; I don’t understand that choice. They couldn’t find someone more credible and knowledgable to talk about or investigate crime in New Orleans?

Rose’s book (as well as Cooper’s) are listed on Oprah’s site as related resources.
