Editor explains why layoffs aren’t announced
On Monday, South Florida Sun-Sentinel editor Earl Maucker told Editor & Publisher that his paper will be cutting 20 percent of its staff — or about 58 employees. E&P had questioned why Maucker and Sun-Sentinel leaders had not reported the layoffs, which started Friday and will continue this week. Part of Maucker’s telling response: “It serves nobody’s interest to put it out ahead of time. As I’ve found, it gets butchered in the media, [there is] misinformation.”
Maucker, you are the media.
