Mapping newspaper endorsements
Three weeks to Election Day, and several newspapers are announcing who they are endorsing. Editor & Publisher has a running list. Lists are nice, but I wanted to see if there were geographic trends. This map will be updated as more papers endorse either Democrat Barack Obama (blue markers) or Republican John McCain (red markers).

Another smart idea!
a smarter and better way to present the info. it’ll be interesting to compare / overlay the election results with this.

This really rocks! It caught the attention of many in our Media Center. We’d like to apply this to our hotly contested gubernatorial race and see where the state stands. Way to go, Erica!

Did you parse the E&P page, or wikipedia’s, or just hand-transcribe? Interested to hear methodology if you did it by machine. (I parsed it — the graph widget I used doesn’t have geolocation, so I had to smash it against a list of lat-long-for-US-cities.)
@Philip: I had already geocoded many newspaper addresses from the Paper Cuts blog, which I’ve been updating by hand, so I did this one the same way.
