If you’re happy and you know it, read the paper

There’s a reason newspapers aren’t doing so well: They’re not happy. (The people, not the newspapers, although you could argue both.) A 30-year University of Maryland study finds that unhappy people watch more TV and read fewer newspapers.

To get more people to read they paper, more people must be happy! (Is this why so many people bought copies of the Nov. 5 newspaper? They were happy about Barack Obama’s victory?) Have you tried offering Prozac with subscriptions?

The study appears in the December issue of Social Indicators Research.
