What kind of graphic should you make?

Last week I taught a session on visualizing data at the Knight Center, highlighting free and easy-to-use multimedia tools. Over the next couple of days, I’ll be posting tutorials on everything we discussed. So far that includes:
• The basics of HTML
• Creating an HTML table from a spreadsheet
• Creating graphics with Google Docs

Before jumping into Many Eyes, another way to quickly create graphics, I need to back up a step. When creating a graphic, the type of graphic will be determined by the information you want to show. Extreme Presentation has a chart, of all things, on how to decide which graphic will work best:
